Data delivered ashore
From analyser firmware to fleet-level reporting, such that measurements accumulate into a trend on which the technical department can act.
Software development for the marine sector, OEM pressure analysers, the repair and calibration of the instruments in service, and acoustic emission sensor development. For ship managers and owners, for operators of land-based generating sets, and for manufacturers building under their own brand.
DS Engineering develops software for the marine sector: shipboard and desktop applications, fleet cloud platforms, and the firmware within measuring instruments. Its experience is in diesel engine performance measurement, where it has developed the complete chain from the sensor at the indicator cock to the fleet report ashore.
The same engineers develop cylinder pressure analysers as OEM solutions, supplied under a customer’s own brand with their firmware and software. The company repairs and calibrates DieselScope, Electronic Indicator and older COMPAC instruments in its workshop in Varna, under documented test and warranty protocols for every engagement.
Acoustic emission sensors are designed and produced in house, and their development continues. They extend diagnosis to faults that pressure measurement alone does not reveal.
The company is founded on measurement physics, sensor development, and embedded and cloud software. This combination allows software to be written by engineers who understand the measurement it presents.
Failures in marine measurement software occur principally at the interfaces: a correctly functioning sensor read by an incorrectly triggered analyser, or valid data that does not reach the technical department. All four disciplines are held in house, which ensures that the resulting values are dependable.
From analyser firmware to fleet-level reporting, such that measurements accumulate into a trend on which the technical department can act.
Instruments and software designed around the behaviour of a two-stroke crosshead or medium-speed four-stroke engine at a given load, rather than around what is convenient to measure.
Calibration, measurement uncertainty, TDC referencing and trigger accuracy: the distinction between a plausible diagram and a correct one.
Acoustic emission sensors are developed and produced in house, extending measurement where pressure alone is insufficient; cylinder pressure uses Kistler transducers, selected and integrated rather than manufactured. The underlying sensor behaviour is sufficiently well understood that drift, thermal shock and cable faults are diagnosed rather than assumed.
Whether the work is a development programme, a workshop repair or a set of data to analyse, the documentation is the same.
Specification, deliverables, timing and price confirmed in writing before work commences.
Carried out against the agreed specification or calibrated references, with conditions and results recorded throughout.
Per-cylinder findings, deviation from reference, and a specific recommended action.
Documented test results issued on completion, and a stated warranty on the work carried out.
Please provide the engine types concerned, the measurement or development requirement, and any existing equipment in use. This includes proposals for instruments outside pressure and acoustic emission measurement. A response will follow with scope, timing and price.
